Taman Ayun Temple is one of the most beautiful temples in Bali.

Taman Ayun Temple is located in Mengwi Village, Badung regency, about 18 km to the west from Denpasar. This temple is very beautiful, in accordance with its name which means the temple in the beautiful garden. In addition to beautiful, Taman Ayun Temple is also considered to have historical value, so in 2002 the Bali Government proposed to UNESCO for this temple is included in the World Heritage List.

Its declared purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through educational, scientific, and cultural reforms in order to increase universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedom proclaimed in the United Nations Charter. It is the successor of the League of Nations' International Committee on Intellectual Cooperation.

UNESCO has 195 member states and ten associate members. Most of its field offices are "cluster" offices covering three or more countries; national and regional offices also exist.

UNESCO pursues its objectives through five major programs: [education], natural sciences, social/human sciences, culture and communication/information. Projects sponsored by UNESCO include literacy, technical, and teacher-training programs, international science programs, the promotion of independent media and freedom of the press, regional and cultural history projects, the promotion of cultural diversity, translations of world literature, international cooperation agreements on secure the world cultural and natural heritage (World Heritage Sites) and to preserve human rights, and attempts to bridge the worldwide digital divide. It is also a member of the United Nations Development Group. 

At the front, there is a place to buy a ticket that is not so expensive. Once entered we will be treated to a beautiful gardens and well groomed. Some parts of the park are punctuated by a fountain, which beautify the park.

Taman Ayun Temple is the Mother Temple (Paibon) for the kingdom of Mengwi. This temple was built by King Mengwi, I Gusti Agung Putu, in 1556 Saka (1634 AD). At first, I Gusti Agung Putu built a temple in the north of Mengwi Village for his ancestral worship.


The temple is called Taman Genter. When Mengwi had developed into a great empire, I Gusti Agung Putu moved Genter Park eastward and expanded the building. The expanded temple was inaugurated as Taman Ayun Temple on Tuesday Kliwon-Medangsia in the fourth month of 1556 Saka. 

Until now, every Tuesday Kliwon wuku Medangsia according to Saka panels, in this temple held piodalan (ceremony) to celebrate the birthday of the temple.

Taman Ayun Temple has undergone several repairs. Massive improvements implemented in 1937. In 1949 implemented revisions to the kori agung, gate briefly, and manufacture wantilan great. The third was 1972 and the last was 1976.

Taman Ayun Temple Complex occupies a land area of 100 x 250 m2, composed of the outer court and three inner courts, which increasingly into the higher location. The outer court called Jaba, is located on the outer side of the pool. From the outer court there is a bridge across the pond, leading to a gate of a gate.
